JOB TITLE: Education Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Executive Director, and AYO Music Director

JOB SUMMARY: The Abilene Philharmonic is excited to announce the revival of the Abilene Youth Orchestra (AYO) and is looking for a highly motivated Education Coordinator to support the functions required for a successful youth orchestra. This position will manage the operational, personnel, and fundraising aspects of the Abilene Youth Orchestra, and assist with the planning and implementation of the Academy of Music programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain favorable rapport with AYO students and parents
  • Act as a liaison among the AYO music director, APA staff, students, and parents
  • Monitor schedules, maintain attendance, and maintain personnel and repertoire lists
  • Set up and break down rehearsal space
  • Coordinate auditions, competitions, and social and community engagements
  • Maintain AYO social media platforms
  • Maintain and update calendar of events
  • Coordinate and manage AYO concerts
  • Manage and report on financial transactions
  • Create and distribute financial reports
  • Handle tuition collection
  • Manage all aspects of the music rental or purchase
  • Mark bowings and prepare music for students
  • Fundraise on behalf of the AYO through grant submissions, individual and corporate support.

Other Functions:

  • Assists Box Office on APA concert dates.
  • Projects as assigned by Marketing, Development, or Production departments.

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Must have thorough knowledge of orchestral repertoire and procedures
  • Knowledge of standard office practices.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when appropriate.
  • Writing/proofreading skills and an understanding of the English language (both written and oral) are required.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as copy machines, multi-line telephones, fax machines, personal computer.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to handle all aspects of position in a positive, professional, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Ability to interact in social settings and varied situations.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with an interest in pursuing a career in arts administration
  • Must live in Abilene or the surrounding area.

BENEFITS & HOURS

Hours: 20 hours per week minimum with opportunities for increase upon demonstrated performance.

Wage: $10.00-$15.00 based on experience

Additional information: Required to work all AYO rehearsal days and all concert days.

Intern

SUMMARY
This internship is an ideal position for those interested in exploring a position in an orchestral and/or nonprofit setting. The Intern will work closely with all APO staff and provide support. Duties include general clerical, receptionist and project based work.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Previous experience in an office setting preferred.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of standard office practices. Excellent customer service skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative when appropriate. Writing/proofreading skills and an understanding of the English language (both written and oral) are required. Ability to use standard office equipment such as copy machines, multi-line telephones, fax machines, personal computer. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Must be able to handle all aspects of position in a positive, professional, timely, and efficient manner. Ability to interact in social settings and varied situations. Music background a plus, but not required.
