Young Artist Schol­ar­ship Competition

The Abi­lene Phil­har­monic is proud to present our bien­nial Young Artist Schol­ar­ship Com­pe­ti­tion.  This event was estab­lished by the Abi­lene Phil­har­monic in 2008 to help sup­port out­stand­ing young musi­cians in the Abi­lene area.  The com­pe­ti­tion is open to Wood­wind, Brass, Per­cus­sion, String, and Piano stu­dents between the ages of 12–18 that live in Texas School Regions 14 or 15.  Schol­ar­ship awards may be used to fur­ther the student’s musi­cal edu­ca­tion, includ­ing pri­vate music lessons, music camps, and uni­ver­sity tuition.

Reper­toire Requirements

Appli­cants should pre­pare two con­trast­ing selec­tions from the UIL Pre­scribed Music List  for their instru­ment.  Addi­tional major works may be allowed with pre-approval from the judges.

Gen­eral Information

Please note: The appli­ca­tion dead­line has been extended, and the pre­lim­i­nary rounds have been post­poned to allow for greater par­tic­i­pa­tion.

Appli­ca­tions must be post­marked by March 16, 2012. Pre­lim­i­nar­ies will be held on March 31, 2012 at the Williams Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter, located on the cam­pus of Abi­lene Chris­t­ian Uni­ver­sity.  The pre­lim­i­nary round will be recorded and later reviewed by a panel of judges.  Final­ists will be selected and noti­fied by April 14, 2012.  Finals will be held at the Williams Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter on April 28th, 2012.  Ques­tions regard­ing the com­pe­ti­tion should be sent to John Whitaker, Oper­a­tions Manager/Education Direc­tor, at operations@abilenephilharmonic.org
