The Abilene Philharmonic presents an evening of musical fortitude in Celebrations which features Danzon No. 2 by Marquez, Glazunov’s Violin Concerto in A minor and Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky. The evening showcases violinist Rachel Barton-Pine. The concert is on January 28th at 8pm in the Abilene Civic Center.
The Abilene Philharmonic will also have its inaugural meeting of the Glow in the Dark Club at this concert. The Glow in the Dark Club is a designated section of Abilene Civic Center Hall, where audiences can bring their laptops, iPhones or iPads, and go online to a secure site that contains material that will enhance the musical experience and add commentary in real-time during the concert. The first trial of this concert experiment will be held at the Saturday night’s performance of Celebrations.
Concert commentary covers only Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and consists of programming notes and visual enhancement provided by the Abilene Philharmonic. This commentary includes an informative, musical guide that provides additional information on the composer, history of the piece and insight into the world of classical music all while the orchestra performs the piece. These real-time program notes will be displayed online and can be viewed through complimentary access to high-speed wireless internet in the theater–digitizing the traditional concert hall experience.
Glow in the Dark Club tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling the Philharmonic Box Office at 325–677-6710 and mentioning, “Glow in the Dark.”At that time, you will be given instructions how to access the content. Future performances of the Glow in the Dark Club will be announced following the feedback and reception of this first beta test.
Student Rush does not apply to the Glow in the Dark Club. The concert sponsor for the evening is Abilene Regional Medical Center. Super sponsors are TownSquare Media and KTXS. Guest artist support provided by Hardin-Simmons University.
