The Abilene Philharmonic’s spring concert, Mozart’s Requiem, on Saturday, April 13th at 7:30 p.m. is an evening you won’t want to miss. This particular concert is unlike the others this season as it will be held at the gorgeous First Baptist Church, creating a unique and intimate setting. Perfect setting for a spectacular show.
In this performance of Mozart’s Requiem, the Philharmonic will be accompanied by the grand organ, as well as the Abilene Christian University, Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University choirs, and special guests Patricia Vigil, Lynnette Chambers, Samuel Cook and Jeffrey Tarr. This is your chance to hear the first and one of the last pieces of Mozart, featured in the movie about Mozart, Amadeus. The show will include Mozart’s Symphony No.25 and Mozart’s Requiem.
Jeffrey Tarr describes Mozart’s Requiem as, “thought-provoking and emotionally moving because Mozart knew he was dying while he was composing it. Many speculate that he was writing his own Requiem while simultaneously pouring every bit of his remaining genius into this score. The result is an incomparable masterpiece.” This caliber of music requires an impressive line-up of performers to do it justice, and the Abilene Philharmonic has the show to pull it off!
Each of the four featured guest artists of the night will bring a unique sound to Mozart’s symphony. Dr. Lynette Chambers is excited as well and said, “I love that we will be performing Mozart’s Requiem at First Baptist Church. The space is so beautiful and fitting for this work. I feel so blessed and honored every time I am given the opportunity to perform with David Itkin and the Abilene Philharmonic. I am excited to hear the combined choirs bring Mozart’s music to life.”
As stated from guest artist, Jeffrey Tarr, “I am looking forward to the collaboration with the orchestra, the chorus, fellow soloists, and, of course, Maestro Itkin.”
