Discover Music Concerts
The Discover Music Series has been an integral part of the Abilene Philharmonic’s season since 1955. Held annually at the Abilene Civic Center in October, the series reaches approximately 6,500 area students in grades three through five – including public, private and home-school. Our Music Director designs student-friendly programs alongside a local elementary music specialist who creates the Teacher’s Guide curriculum book, integrating with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) guidelines.
This year’s curriculum guide is written by AISD Elementary Music Teacher Teresa Graham, who has created an exceptional teacher guide with grade-appropriate concepts and activities. Teresa and the Abilene Philharmonic are excited to present many great resources for teachers including:
- Fourteen unique lessons and activities tailor-made for the repertoire of the Student Concerts and guided by TEKS principles
- Information and resources to encourage your students to get to know the composers featured in the concert
- A PowerPoint presentation designed to help teachers dive into the world of orchestral music along with their students
Please check in with this website and the “Teacher Resources” tab to download the PowerPoint, as well as many other resources that are published in our Curriculum Guide.

Each year, the Abilene Philharmonic sends out a packet to all local Region 14 & 15 schools that includes a Reservation Form, as well as an introduction letter and comment sheet to help us improve our program. Our reservation system allows teachers to rank their preferences for times based on their school’s schedule. The price of reserving seats is 50 cents per student, quite a bargain for a professional orchestra concert! Please send in a check after your reservation has been confirmed. Please keep in mind that space is limited, and reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
NOTE: Schools within Abilene Independent School District will not need to complete this administrative process.
Send your reservation to our office at:
Abilene Philharmonic Association
ATTN: Student Concert Reservations

OR, if you’re able to scan your reservation you can email a scan of the Reservation Form to email@example.com
After you mail in your reservation, we will call you to confirm your time and date. If you don’t hear from us within a week of sending your form, please notify us. Once your time is reserved, we will send you a copy of our Curriculum Guide to help prepare your students for the experience of a live professional orchestra! A special thanks to our VP of Student Concerts from the Abilene Philharmonic Guild, Eliza Davis! We couldn’t do it without you!
