The Abilene Philharmonic has become known both inside and outside our community as the place to go for thrilling concert experiences. From showcasing both rising stars and seasoned soloists to assembling the finest orchestral players in Texas, a performance by this polished group of musicians leaves you with the sense of deep appreciation for live music along with an indelible memory of the concert.

But it’s more than a stellar musical experience. The sense of each unique concert program makes it something unparalleled in our community.

So how does the Abilene Philharmonic consistently produce such outstanding concerts each season? Like all orchestras around the nation, we supplement our limited box office income with financial support from the community. In a time of financial challenge and shrinking resources, we rely more on the generosity of our patrons.

Calculating the average cost of a concert—complete with overhead of auditorium use, administration, promotion and concert production costs—at $24,000, with box office average income of $12,750, divided by an average concert length of 90 minutes, that comes to $125 that must be raised per minute of music.

In order to keep the music going, we must raise $125 for every Minute of Music the Abilene Philharmonic performs.

Abilene is known for its generosity.

A radio jingle can be one minute. Your average rock/pop ballad is two and a half minutes Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro is five minutes. Sibelius Finlandia is 8 minutes. Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun is ten minutes long.

Support our orchestra by making your financial contribution the Abilene Philharmonic Annual Fund.
