Get Involved! Become a Volunteer

The success of the Abilene Philharmonic and our commitment to the community depends on volunteers from the surrounding area who help create an outstanding experience for all patrons. Whether you are a high school or college student, working adult or retiree, we have opportunities for you to enrich your life and the lives of others, meet people with similar interests, and help fulfill the Philharmonic’s mission while having fun!

Usher Volunteer- the Belle and Beau Program

Ushers are an important part of every performance. You’ll help welcome our audiences, make them feel at home and ensure that everything runs smoothly from lights up to curtains down.

The Belles and Beaus are a group of young men and women that support the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra and its Guild. The participants volunteer by ushering for Philharmonic events. They also serve as volunteers at the annual Gold Medallion Ball and Coffee. Belles and Beaus participate in the program while in the 8th and 12th grades. The program is composed of students from all Abilene and surrounding area schools.

For more information on the Belles and Beaus program, or if you are interested in joining please call our office at 326.677.6710 or email

Join the Guild

Membership in the Guild is a wonderful way to spend time with friends while helping the Philharmonic. Guild members meet nine times each year between September and May to enjoy performances by local musical talent in beautiful homes of members, share news of upcoming concerts, fellowship, and a light meal. Guild volunteers coordinate school student seating for the Philharmonic Discover Music Series concerts. The Guild hosts the Philharmonic Ball, its major annual fundraiser. Seventh-grade students whose parents are members have the first opportunity to join the Belles and Beaus program. Belles and Beaus serve as ushers for Philharmonic concerts. This five-year service program is recognized by the Texas Governor and can be valuable for college entrance applications.

Artistic and Office Assistance

Volunteers enjoy being behind the scenes with guest artists and musicians, helping with transportation, auditions, and concert and special event logistics.

Interns can support every aspect of the Philharmonic’s operations. Click here for information on current internship opportunities.

House a Musician

Abilene hosts open their homes on concert weekends for musicians who come from out of town. These hosts allow us to recruit fine players while lowering production costs.
