2010 Young Artist

Scholarship Competition

The Abilene Philharmonic is proud to present our second biennial Young Artist Scholarship Competition.  This event was established by the Abilene Philharmonic in 2008 to help support outstanding young musicians in the Abilene area.  The competition is open to Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, String, and Piano students between the ages of 12-18 that live in Texas School Regions 14 or 15.  Scholarship awards may be used to further the student’s musical education, including private music lessons, music camps, and university tuition.  Scholarship amounts are:

1st Place $1,500

2nd Place $1,000

3rd Place $750

Applicants should prepare two contrasting selections from the UIL Prescribed Music List  for their instrument.  Additional major works may be allowed with pre-approval from the judges.

Preliminaries will be held on February 5th and 6th, 2010 at the Williams Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of Abilene Christian University.  The preliminary round will be recorded and later reviewed by a panel of judges.  Finalists will be selected and notified by March 1st, 2010.  Finals will be held at the Williams Performing Arts Center on April 29th, 2010.  Questions regarding the competition should be sent to Ben Wilson, Education Director, at bwilson@abilenephilharmonic.org.
